Hi, I'm Melissa, dyer at Alley Cat Yarns!
I am a knitter, mom, cyclist, musician, triathlete, gardener, cat lover, and more. I come from a family of artists and musicians, and am so lucky that my extended family showed me the knitting ropes about 15 years ago.
I have some earlier experience dyeing protein fibres (primarily silk), and am really enjoying learning how dyes work with different types of fibres, such as Merino and Bluefaced Leicester wools, cashmere, and silk. My favourite dye techniques include pan/kettle combinations where colours mix, mingle, and transform between processes.
I am a knitter with no stash. What?! That's right: I choose a project, choose the yarn, then knit the project. I know this makes me unusual in the fibre-loving world, but I like to be very purposeful in my acquisitions and find great joy in choosing just the perfect yarn for every project, as I go. It is my hope that your Alley Cat acquisitions will find love in projects you'll soon make, too.
