100% Ontario Rambouillet
Approximately 80 grams and 228 yards per skein.
Note: This yarn falls into a DK category by weight-to-yardage ratio, but due to its woolen processing has a lofty thickness. It will make a dense fabric at a classic DK gauge, and will also fill out a worsted gauge without stitch gaps.
Single-flock breed-specific Rambouillet wool from an Ontario farm!
Rambouillet is a sheep breed very similar to merino: It offers soft and cozy wool that wears beautifully next to skin. The shepherds at Gaynor Homestead in Dorchester, Ontario raise their flock with priority to producing the best possible wool: They raise the most fibre-suited Rambouillets in a low-stress environment, place weather-appropriate coats on the sheep to protect their fleeces, and give the animals targeted feed to grow fine, healthy fleece that is able to be spun into top-quality yarn.
If you're looking for a soft woolen-spun yarn (lofty, light, good yardage per weight), and want to support Canadian wool, this is exactly the yarn you want! Suitable for all sorts of garments and accessories, this wool will shine in lace or cablework, and is a favourite for lightweight yet warm sweaters and cardigans.
Care:
All of our yarns are carefully dyed with professional wash-fast, and light-fast wool dyes. Dyes are fully set and rinsed clear of the dye bath before yarn is dried and skeined. You may notice some light colour in the water when you soak your projects, and this can be due to differences in water pH or mineral content between your water source and ours, or from small amounts of dye shedding from wool scales in the case of untreated wool. This colour should be so minimal that it does not transfer in colourwork projects. Use cool water and vinegar in your first wash for best results, and never soak your projects in hot water.
If you plan to use very dark and very light colours together in the same project, make a swatch and wash it to test colourfastness.
