Developed collaboratively with New Wave Fibre in British Columbia, Canadian BFL Alpaca Sport is raised, milled, and hand-dyed entirely within Canada!
285 yards and 100 grams per skein
90% Bluefaced Leicester / 10% Alpaca
This unique yarn came to be after Emily of New Wave Fibre and I connected to explore possibilities of a custom mill run using her farm's beautiful Bluefaced Leicester wool. Very quickly, we agreed on a plan--which included adding some Canadian alpaca for softness-- and off went the fibre to the mill. Within a few months, this gorgeous yarn arrived at my studio, and I've been preparing it for the shop since!
What's so unique about this yarn? Well, besides being produced entirely within Canada from breed-specific sheep and alpacas (!), the character of Canadian BFL Alpaca Sport sets it apart:
- This is the yarn you want for DRAPE for days. It is semi-worsted spun, meaning its fibres are aligned as part of the milling process, resulting in a yarn that is smoother and denser than many other farm yarns you may be familiar with.
- It has a lighter-than-average twist, making it ideal for relaxed fabric.
- Bluefaced Leicester has a long fibre staple (length), giving the yarn a natural shine and durability.
This yarn works beautifully for elegant sweaters, cozy shawls, luxurious house socks, and any other project that calls for a drapey sport-weight yarn.
